If your computer is infected with virus, then it is a serious matter that you need to be worried of and the first step that usually a user takes is to remove the virus. However, if your PC is not yet infected by virus then no news is better than this. Antivirus programs have a feature of warning the user, every time it encounters a virus or malware.
It is better, if the virus is caught before running on your computer. If, by any chance, it runs on the computer, then there is a possibility of intrusion of your system and the important files sitting on your system. Let us see, how we can stop this intrusion by keeping the virus attack from the computer.
Changes Passwords:
Having assumed that the computer you have used for logging into your online accounts has been infected by the virus, which is why there are chances that your passwords and other account details have been interpreted by the malware and have been sent to unsolicited third party. This information will then be used to wreak havoc on the user. It’s pretty simple! The access to your e-mail will help the mischief maker to reset the passwords for many of your online accounts and then, those accounts will be used by him.
Certainly, you do not want this to happen! So, the moment you know that the computer that you used for accessing your online accounts is infected, you need to switch to another computer that is clean of the infectious files and change the passwords of all the accounts, so that nobody can steal your passwords and use them.
Also, you can make use of the password managers to make sure that the passwords you intend to use are strong and unique.
Make sure that there is no malware:
Malware has the ability to trick you and exploit all your important files, to leave you bankrupt. Just that your antivirus has detected a malware and removed it, doesn’t mean that there is no chance of such files sitting on your system. Malware may install rootkit software into your system and hide itself from Windows, and it will become difficult for antivirus program to detect it. Also, these programs download other programs and run those in your system, to make the situation worse.
If there is any such chance, it is better to scan the computer with more than one antivirus program. Bootable virus is another program that you can make use of. This program scans for malicious files outside Windows and it doesn’t leave any chance of a malicious file running outside Windows.
Re-installing Windows is another way of getting your PC clean. This could be a time taking process, as you need to back-up all the files before re-installing the operating system. However, this process is the best way to confirm that your PC is infection free.
If you make sure of keeping these two steps in mind, then you can keep the malicious files and other trouble making files away from your system to a great extent.
