Prefetch files are the ones, which help your computer load the frequently used applications and files load faster. Prefetch files save the remnants of the frequently used programs, so that it becomes easier for the users to load the programs faster than before. However, sometimes it becomes a headache, as there would be many remnants saved that affect the performance of the system.
It becomes important to clear prefetch files every now and then. Here are the steps to do so:

Click on the ‘start’ menu and type ‘run’ in the command box.

In the run text box, you need to type ‘prefetch’ followed by choosing ‘ok’. This action will take you to “C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch” location.

Select all the contents of this particular folder by pressing ‘Ctrl’ and ‘A’ keys simultaneously. Then, right click on any area and choose the ‘Delete’ option from the context menu. This will clear the entire content of the ‘Prefetch’ folder.

Next is to exit the folder.
